Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Woofability! Below are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our training, enrichment daycare, and in-home boarding programs. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us

General Information

  • Our Enrichment Daycare is designed to provide a structured, engaging, and mentally stimulating experience for dogs. Instead of free play, our program integrates obedience training, confidence-building exercises, structured socialization, and physical activities to ensure a well-balanced day for your dog. Our goal is to create a stress-free, fulfilling environment where dogs thrive through positive reinforcement and structured learning.

  • Yes, to access our boarding and enrichment daycare services, you must have an active monthly membership with Woofability. We offer different membership levels to suit various needs and budgets.

  • Yes, your dog will still enjoy socialization and structured play with carefully selected groups of dogs based on temperament, size, and play style. Socialization is always supervised to ensure safe and positive interactions.

  • Absolutely. Our program is structured to include scheduled rest periods between activities to prevent overstimulation and ensure your dog has time to relax and process their experiences.

  • Our enrichment daycare follows a seven dogs to one staff member ratio, ensuring individual attention and safety for all dogs in our care.

  • We aim to ensure dogs are never left unsupervised. However, in rare cases where only one staff member is present, such as during a scheduled hike with some boarding dogs or an emergency, all dogs will be securely crated during that time for their safety.

  • We appreciate as much notice as possible so we can adjust our scheduling. Additional nights will be charged at our regular boarding rates, and payment will be due upon collection of your dog.

  • Initial assessment fees are payable on the night of your dog’s trial stay. Boarding fees are payable on the day of arrival. Payment can be made via eTransfer, credit or debit card, cheque, or cash. If you prefer, you may prepay for convenience.

  • If your dog is not collected within forty-eight hours of the agreed pick-up time and all contact attempts have been unsuccessful, your emergency contact details and dog’s information will be provided to the CRD (Capital Regional District). You will also be billed for the additional care period.

  • Yes. To maintain a safe and healthy environment, all dogs must be fully vaccinated and treated for fleas and ticks. Proof of vaccinations is required upon registration.

  • Yes, all dogs must be licensed as per local regulations. This helps ensure responsible pet ownership and the safety of all dogs in our care.

  • All dogs under one year of age must be crate-trained, as this helps with structured rest, feeding separation, and preventing overstimulation. During daycare, dogs have scheduled rest times in designated quiet areas. For in-home boarding, dogs under one year will sleep in a crate overnight, while older dogs have the option to sleep on beds or couches provided they settle well in the home environment.

  • Yes. Since dogs in our enrichment daycare and boarding program interact with other dogs, they must display a friendly and sociable temperament. If your dog has social challenges, we recommend private training sessions before enrolling in our programs.

  • We include basic obedience practice during enrichment daycare, such as sit, down, stay, and recall around distractions. If your dog needs customized training, we offer a Board and Train program for focused skill-building.

  • You are welcome to bring your dog’s bed or blanket, but we ask with toys, that you leave all toys at home. We provide comfortable beds and enrichment activities, so excessive belongings are not necessary.

Training & Behaviour

  • Yes. We offer a Board and Train package where your dog receives daily one-on-one training alongside their boarding stay. This program is designed to address specific goals such as recall, leash walking, or general obedience.

  • For new clients, dogs over eight years of age may not be suitable for our structured programs. Existing clients whose dogs reach this age may continue attending, provided they remain comfortable in the environment. If at any point we feel the setting is no longer ideal for them, we will discuss alternative options.

  • Our trainers are professionally certified in canine behaviour, obedience training, and enrichment programs. Many of our team members hold certifications from the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) as Certified Dog Behavior Consultants (CDBC) and Certified Trainers, as well as the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT-KA). Additionally, our trainers are certified in Canine First Aid and CPR, Advanced Canine Enrichment and Learning Theory. We are committed to continuous education to ensure we provide the best, science-based training and enrichment for your dog.

  • Not all dogs thrive in a structured daycare setting. We require an initial assessment to determine if your dog enjoys socialization, can handle structured activities, and is comfortable with a predictable routine.

  • We accept intact dogs; Males up to 8 months however, they must be well-mannered and non-disruptive to the group. Female dogs in heat cannot attend daycare or boarding and must wait until their heat cycle is over.

  • We can accommodate some medical conditions, but this must be discussed before booking. Dogs requiring significant medical care, injections, or rehabilitation may not be suited for our boarding or enrichment programs.

  • Yes, we are a science-based, positive reinforcement training facility. We do not use aversive tools like prong collars, choke chains. Instead, we focus on reward-based training to encourage desired behaviours.

  • We assess every dog individually. Mild reactivity can sometimes be managed with structure and positive exposure, but highly reactive or aggressive dogs may require private training before being integrated into group settings.

  • Yes, we offer private training sessions, either in-person or online, for owners who want customized training support for specific behaviour concerns.

  • Our daycare and boarding programs are designed to include structured activities and enrichment. While formal training is not required, your dog will still be expected to participate in basic obedience exercises throughout the day.

  • We understand delays happen. However, to keep our schedule structured, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible. Late pick-ups may result in an additional fee.

Health & Safety

  • We have strict safety protocols to minimize risks, but in the event of an injury or illness, we will contact you immediately and take your dog to the nearest veterinary clinic if necessary. Any medical costs incurred will be the owner’s responsibility.

  • Some dogs take time to adjust. If your dog struggles to settle, we will communicate with you and may recommend alternative solutions, such as shorter stays, private training, or home-based enrichment options.
